Random Thoughts (4/20/09)
The countdown is on! 5 days away from the 2009 NFL Draft, or as Bill Polian calls it…CHRISTMAS! Nobody loves the draft more than “The Bill.” As we brace ourselves for 6 hours of primetime coverage, here are my weekly random thoughts.
.) WR or DT: That is the million dollar question for Colts fans. Do they try and replace Marvin Harrison or fix their run defense that has been getting abused since 2006. Polian likes to cater to his offense, but can a rookie WR step into one of the most complex offensive systems in the league and adjust to Peyton changing the play 1 second before the snap on a team that is still a Super Bowl contender? That is asking a lot.
.) Helio Castroneves: Aquitted on the federal tax charges and raced this past weekend at Long Beach. A lot of people concerned that his image has been tainted. Not me, anyone trying to get over on the IRS and government in THIS economy has my blessing! That being said, I didn’t need to see him crying outside the courthouse after the decision. Probably a good thing he didn’t go to federal prison. Without knowing firsthand, I can only imagine how a crying, dancing celebrity would have fared in prison…not good!!!
.) Dominic Rhodes: Tough loss for the Colts when he bolted for Buffalo. I liked his approach to the game and his “team first” mentality. Judging by the comments and calls I have received, you think lso do. A lot of Pressure on Joseph Addai to step it up this year. A LOT of pressure.
.) Stephen A. Smith: “Screamin’ A” will no longer work for ESPN after the NBA Playoffs. Say what you want, but I actually liked him on the Worldwide Leader. One of the only people to be honest without trying to be funny or cute. How is Rob Parker and Mike Lupica still on their network shows? Rob Parker is an idiot who looks like a homeless man and Mike Lupica is a chick.
.) Indiana Pacers: The offseason is officially here and a lot of work needs to be done. However, I feel a lot better about this team now than I did a year ago. If Granger commits to being a nasty SOB on the defensive end of the floor and if Rush continues to develop, they could make a legit playoff run.
.) John and Kate Plus 8: The punishment I will have for making my wife watch hours of the NFL Draft at home is to watch her favorite show, the horrible “John and Kate Plus 8.” Kate is a horrible wife and mean to John. John neeeds to bail now and start his own show “John Minus 9!”
.) John Madden: Just think about how many kids John has gotten to be interested in football? That is one reason why the NFL is king. Kids now know every team, every player and follow the game so they can keep up on the video game. John Madden rules!
.) Frank Caliendo: Anyone else glad his career looks like it may be over?
.) Burt Reynolds: The new voice over guy for “Denny’s.” How pimp is that? Burt Reynolds may just be the coolest man alive!
.) Marvin Harrison: Still no takers and things are not looking good. I hate to see #88 flame out like that.
